Test video summary

Opinion summary

  • Overall bag comfort
  • Precision fit
  • Less pressure on the chest
  • Numerous practical pockets, including 2 waterproof ones
  • Excellent value for money
  • Flange opening too small
  • Phone pocket a little large: it wanders around if the bag is not full
  • Single color a little too girly for my taste

How do I use the Kiprun 8L trail bag?

With its 8-liter volume, this Kiprun (formerly Evadict) trail bag is suitable for trails of up to 60km, so you can carry all the mandatory gear.

If you’re looking for an ultra bag, or want a little more room for your gear, you’ll opt for a larger volume, like the Raidlight Ultraligh 12L for example. If, on the other hand, you’re only doing short distances, you won’t necessarily need the 8-liter size: a 5-liter is generally sufficient.

Features

  • Volume: 8 liters
  • Weight: 240g empty
  • Material: polyester, elastane, polyamide and polyurethane
  • Closure system: 3 straps with clips on the front of the bag
  • Adjustment: elasticated side straps allow you to adjust the bag to your body shape
  • Hydration: 2 x 500mL flasks supplied
  • Storage: 11 pockets
  • Rod holder? No, but you can fit a quiver (sold separately).
  • 3 sizes: XXS/XS (81-87cm chest circumference), S/M (88-95cm) and L/XL (96-113cm)
  • Color: single color (mint green and gray with a touch of purple)
  • Price: €80

Our test of the Kiprun 8L women’s trail bag

A bag designed for women

The Kiprun 8L trail bag is designed especially for women. And no, it’s not just the color 😛 Here are the two most important features:

  • The first point is to free up the chest by offsetting the flasks: instead of being located on the chest, they are located underneath, slightly offset to the side, and are less high but wider. To ensure that you can still drink (which is kind of the point!), long, adjustable pipettes are provided. Personally, I find this format comfortable, with less pressure on the chest, but I have an average bust. If you have a large bust, it’s worth a try, as I’ve heard several times that it’s not necessarily suitable.

  • The second point is to adjust the bag to women’s morphology , with different adjustment systems at the front and on the sides. This makes it possible to adjust the bag even when you have a large waist, which is my case. That’s a nice touch, as I often find this to be a problem with mixed trail bags!

Adjustment

The bag is easy to adjust. The three straps around the sternum can be adjusted for ease of use, both in terms of tightness and position: the two lowest straps can in fact be repositioned to suit your own body shape.

In my opinion, the only drawback is that the clips are very small: I sometimes have trouble putting them on or taking them off, but you have to remember that it’s this kind of detail that makes it possible to avoid having a bag that’s too heavy…

What’s more, you can also fine-tune the fit thanks to the somewhat hidden but useful side elastics . Last but not least, the wide elastic at the bottom of the back ensures a really good fit and support.

Comfort

In use, I found the bag comfortable. I’ve carried it up to 35km without any discomfort or rubbing. It’s easy to adjust and stays in place, even when loaded. The material is a bit thick and not the most breathable, but that’s still pretty decent, especially considering the bag’s price compared to the competition! Anyway, I find that you always end up soaked 😛

My only complaint in terms of comfort is when the bag isn’t loaded. I often set off for a short outing with a trail bag and only a flask and a phone, and the Kiprun 8L trail bag isn’t very comfortable when this happens, because the phone isn’t secured at all and wanders around, poking me in the ribs.

Organization

With its 11 pockets, the Kiprun 8L women’s trail bag has plenty of storage space. Here’s how they’re organized:

  • a zipped main compartment on the back, including a watertight pocket also with a zipper
  • a compartment for a water bottle (sold separately)
  • a back kangaroo pocket for grabbing contents without removing the bag
  • two flange slots
  • two front pockets with Velcro fastenings for food storage
  • two stretch side pockets for additional accessories (hat, neck strap, gloves, etc.)
  • watertight front phone pocket
  • two side elastics in the back as well

All in all, a very practical package . I particularly like the two waterproof pockets, which are very useful. The kangaroo pocket, where you can keep a waterproof jacket, is also very useful, so you don’t have to take off your bag to get the jacket.

I’m just having trouble with the two stretch side pockets, which I’m having a really hard time reaching given their position (maybe I’m not flexible with my arms!).

Lastly, as I said earlier, the phone flops around in the watertight pocket if you don’t have a full flask on the same side: I think the pocket is a little too big and so it’s not wedged in, which is a bit unpleasant at the end of a run or if you leave with your bag almost empty. Or put something else in the pocket to wedge it in!

Flask or water bag

With their long pipettes (which can be cut to fit your needs), I find the flasks supplied with the bag practical for drinking. On the other hand, they are much less convenient to fill because of their narrow opening. It can be a bit of a challenge to fill them with effort drink without spilling it everywhere 😉 Finally, they slip easily into the bag’s special pockets, even when full.

The bag can also accommodate a water pouch (not supplied). There’s a hook for attaching it, and the hose from the pouch can be threaded under the shoulder fabric, which is well done.

Quiver

There’s no space for poles, but you can add a quiver (sold separately) that attaches to the top and bottom of the bag.

Conclusion

I find this Kiprun 8L trail bag to be a very good value for money , with the added bonus of being globally adaptable to women’s morphologies (but check it out for larger breasts, give it a try!). With its multiple stowage compartments, it’s sure to accompany you on long trails!
