Opinion summary
I liked
- Incredible value for money
- Numerous well-designed, practical pockets
- 1L water pouch included
I liked it less
- Mixed and one size fits all: in my case, it’s difficult to fit perfectly and moves when well loaded.
- Sold without flanges
- No possibility of attaching sticks/quiver
How do I use the Kiprun 5L trail bag?
With its 5-liter volume, the Kiprun (formerly Evadict) mixed trail bag is suitable for small to medium-sized outings, but of course it all depends on the equipment you need to carry. If you’re planning to set off on a trail requiring a lot of compulsory gear, you’ll be better off with an 8L or even a 12L, but if that’s not the case, you’ll already have plenty to do with a 5L, even on a long trail!

The Kiprun brand
Kiprun is Decathlon’s running and trail brand. It is characterized by products that offer particularly good value for money, which doesn’t stop them from performing, as the Kiprun team has shown during their races!
Our test of the Kiprun 5L trail bag
Fit and comfort
The bag has several adjustment points:
- two sternum straps. They’re handy, the clips are just really small and therefore sometimes a bit difficult to clip/unclip (especially if you’ve got cold hands or gloves!).
- two side straps for waist-level adjustment. Simple, a little “heavy” aesthetically, but quite effective.
At the waist, I manage to get a good fit, even if the straps loosen very slightly at times and the flow of the strap is quite long, as I have to tighten it quite a bit (I guess because the bag is mixed and one-size-fits-all). Fortunately, it can be stowed away in a small pocket provided for this purpose. In any case, I find the system effective, especially given the bag’s price.
I’m more annoyed about the sternum straps. No problem with the bass, but the chest strap turns out to be too long. No matter how tight I tighten it, I can’t get it to fit properly. Again, I imagine this is due to the fact that the bag is mixed and one-size-fits-all.
In my case, the bag doesn’t sit well on the upper part of the chest, creating a sort of bridge that causes the bag to move. If the bag isn’t too full (a phone and a flask, for example), no problem, and I didn’t even notice it during my first few short test rides. On the other hand, once the bag is loaded with both flasks and a phone, it really rocks and isn’t very pleasant!

Comfort
The bag is quite comfortable to wear in general: the material is a bit thick, not the most breathable, but frankly that’s fine considering the bag’s ultra-competitive price. You can’t have everything 😉
It does come up a little high on the nape of the neck: you’ll have to check that this doesn’t cause chafing. This was one of my fears, but in the end I didn’t have any problems.
The main comfort issue for me really comes down to the adjustment issue I mentioned above, which causes the bag to move around and doesn’t make it very comfortable once it’s fully loaded.

Organization
With its 7 pockets, I find this Kiprun 5L trail running bag particularly well-designed:
- a kangaroo pocket on the back, handy for putting on a waterproof jacket and taking it out/putting it back in without taking off your bag
- a large back compartment with elastic closure, including a small waterproof zipped pocket (always ultra-practical)
- back compartment for 1L water pouch (supplied with bag)
- two slots for 250mL flasks (sold separately)
- a front right-hand pocket for bars or other items (where you’ll also find a whistle)
- a front zippered pocket for your phone, for example
I find the whole thing really practical: you can access everything easily, it’s well thought out, there are zipped and watertight pockets for your valuables… Honestly, there’s nothing to say, I think it’s perfect in that respect!

Flask or water bag
When it comes to hydration, there’s plenty to choose from! The bag comes with a 1L water pouch, but you can also carry two 250mL flasks (sold separately). It’s up to you to decide, depending on your water needs and habits. Personally, I’m a big fan of water pouches for hiking, but prefer flasks for trail running.
This small 250mL flask format also makes it possible to set off light for short trail outings: as I’m not a big fan of belts, I appreciate being able to carry a light trail bag with a little water.

Conclusion
This Kiprun 5L trail bag is well designed and excellent value for money. That said, I would have liked to have seen it available in different sizes, because as it is, I don’t find it perfectly suited to women’s morphology. If you’re on a budget, I’d advise you to go for the Kiprun women’s 8L model, which I think is more comfortable, even if the 5L could already do the trick.
