Test Saucony Peregrine 16 – More comfort and better grip!

In this article, I present my test of the Saucony Peregrine 16, a model I'm particularly fond of for its versatility. After an already very successful version 15, Saucony strikes hard by integrating a Vibram sole and increasing the cushioning of this iconic trail shoe. Here's my detailed review after several outings on the trails.
My summary
What I liked
- The arrival of the Vibram Megagrip outsole
- Comfort gain
- The slightly larger toe box
- Always versatile and dynamic
What I liked less
- Frankly… Nothing!
How do you use the Saucony Peregrine 16?
The Saucony Peregrine are versatile trail shoes for short to medium-distance trails (around 50km), suitable for women looking for a low-drop (4mm), rather dynamic shoe, comfortable but without too much cushioning, capable of going over all terrains with ease.

The Saucony brand
Founded in the United States, Saucony is a historic brand specializing in running for both road and trail runners. It has established itself as a benchmark on the trails thanks to models such as the Peregrine!
Our full Saucony Peregrine 16 test
First of all, you should know that I tested the men’s model because it’s the one the brand sent me, and I realized that even though I’d already done quite a bit of running with it! Well, a priori it doesn’t change much (I hadn’t noticed anything, even though it’s a model I know well!), because even when I tell you, for example, that the toebox seems roomier, this is the case when comparing the men’s model of the Peregrine 15 and 16. But then you’ll understand why you won’t find the beautiful color I have on the women’s model 😉
Look
The design has evolved with a slightly “beefier” silhouette due to the increased sole height. As for the colors, I’m a fan of mine, but as you’ll have gathered, this is the men’s model… For women, there are 4 nice but less flashy colors. The finish is meticulous and I think they look really good. They also seem robust. As a bonus, there’s always the little loop for locking the laces, which I find very practical.

Comfort
This is one of the most obvious changes compared to the Peregrine 15. With 4 mm more PWRRUN foam, the cushioning is softer. Personally, I like it this way, and appreciate the fact that I’ve gained a little more comfort without falling into the trap of overly soft cushioning. The toe box also seems a little less narrow , and the fit is a little more comfortable overall. All in all, I feel really good in them!

Weight
As for weight, I weighed mine at 260g in size 40.5, the men’s model. But the women’s model is supposed to be a bit lighter, I think (it’s always hard to compare because the weight given by the brand is 239g, but I think it’s for a size 38 for women). In any case, if I compare them to my Peregrine 15s, which I weighed in at 252g (women’s model), it makes no difference! The shoe feels light on the foot, which is one of the things I’ve always appreciated about this model.
Amortized and dynamic
Thecushioning is more present and, in my opinion, more pleasant than the previous version, which could feel a little firm after a while, while retaining that sensation of lightness and closeness to the ground (obviously relative, but we’re far from a barefoot shoe!). Dynamism is preserved thanks to the PWRRUN foam, which maintains a good energy return.

Stability
The base of the shoe has been slightly widened to compensate for the greater sole height. The result is excellent stability, even on slopes and technical terrain. It’s a great feeling to have total confidence.

Hook
I told you in the test of model 15 that grip on wet rocks would be better with a Vibram sole… This is now the case! This is THE big revolution in version 16: the arrival of Vibram Megagrip. The grip on wet rocks and slippery surfaces is now really good, and I was able to test it by taking them out on the coastal path in Brittany with some nice wet rocks, perfect for making up my mind. And the results are conclusive!
What’s more, although the lugs have been reduced from 5 mm to 4 mm here, Vibram’s “Traction Lug ” technology more than makes up for this by offering superior traction. The previous model already gripped pretty well in general, but this is even better. Top of the line!

Protection
Protection is further enhanced by a sturdy rubber stone guard at the front.

Conclusion
The Saucony Peregrine 16 marks a major turning point for this legendary model. By listening to feedback from runners and integrating Vibram Megagrip, Saucony has corrected the model’s main historical weakness: wet grip. More comfortable and as light as ever, it’s the ideal shoe for those who want a versatile pair that can take them anywhere, provided they still like the low drop and not-so-great cushioning.
