My experience at a glance

1. Running in the “Secret Vosges” landscapes

Saint-Nabord, located in the southern Vosges, is part of the“Secret Vosges“. It’s very pleasant to come here for trail running: the Vosges landscapes are really beautiful, obviously undulating (but in a gentler version than the Alps, as you’ll understand). I was also surprised to find a nice variety of landscapes: forests, ponds, canals, meadows, views of the surrounding peaks… Never a dull moment!

2. Follow marked trails

The big advantage of a trail station is that it offers turnkey circuits, which have of course been mapped out by locals and take you through the nicest spots. The circuits are signposted, so you can simply follow the markings on the ground, although I’d recommend keeping track on your GPS watch or phone ( On Piste app or Remiremont-Plombières Tourisme), as you can quickly miss the markings when you’re running!

3. A choice of courses for all levels

The Saint-Nabord trail station offers 5 different trail courses (plus one for Nordic walking), ranging from 5 to 47km. They are listed in green, blue, red and black order of difficulty, to help you make your choice. There really is something for every level, which is great fun, and you can try out several if you’re here for a few days. I’ve tried out several and share my experience with you on my blog.

4. Running in the land of the Infernal Trail

The region is well known to trail runners thanks to theInfernal Trail des Vosges, an iconic race held every September. Participants can choose between several distances, ranging from 15 km to an impressive 200 km ultra, with intermediate formats. The finish of this race is at the stade des Perrey in Saint-Nabord, which is also the starting point for most of the resort’s trail routes.

5. Take advantage of the opportunity to visit the region

Saint-Nabord is a small town nestled in the southern Vosges mountains. It’s a little-known area that’s quiet and unspoilt, yet has plenty to offer nature, heritage and gastronomy lovers! I invite you to read an article written on my travel blog with ideas for things to do around nearby Val d’Ajol, or Nathalie’s review of her mountain biking holiday in Remiremont. A great option for a sporting, relaxing and gourmet vacation!
