This is the jacket I take out without question when the weather is cool and/or gray. After several weeks of testing, here's my review of this Gorewear jacket.

How do you use the Gorewear Everyday jacket?

The versatile Gorewear Everyday Windstopper jacket is ideal when the weather is uncertain. It offers a good balance between protection, comfort and breathability, and has been designed to accompany us in all our sporting activities.

What I like about this jacket is that it’s not limited to one activity. It’s designed for everyday use, whether for regular sports or active travel (bike to work, for example).

Design

This neat-looking jacket features a straight cut, not too tight at the waist, which is practical when layering in cold weather. It’s slightly longer at the back, and has two drawstrings at the hips for a better fit for different activities.

The handles are slightly stretchy to put the jacket on easily, but they don’t have a Velcro fastening for adjustment, which I find a shame. For example, during a sporting activity, the jacket always covers my watch and I can’t take a quick look without rolling up the sleeve.

The full-length zipper is two-way, allowing ventilation during effort without having to remove the jacket. The two zipped pockets are big enough to hold a smartphone, bars, a pair of gloves or whatever. But they’ll be too big for running, as heavier items will tend to flop around in the pocket.

It’s a very attractive, sober jacket that can easily be worn outside a sporting activity if you want a light, technical jacket that doesn’t look too sporty. That’s something I really appreciate.

I’ve got the Gorewear Everyday jacket in purple, a sparkling color that doesn’t look “girly”, a point not to be underestimated! It also comes in yellow (ideal for visibility) and black.

On the downside, this windbreaker has no hood.

Protection and breathability

The Gorewear Everyday isn’ t fully waterproof with a Gore-Tex membrane like the Endure, so it’s clearly not ideal for outdoor activities in torrential downpours.

However, it does feature Windstopper technology, which is totally windproof and protects us when it starts to blow. Draughts don ‘t get in, so you don’t feel cold. Even if it’s not completely waterproof, this jacket is resistant to light rain. And as a bonus, it dries very quickly!

In terms of breathability, the back is designed with a breathable material to wick away perspiration and keep you dry.

For me, it’s just the jacket for mid-season outings when you’re not sure what to wear.

Comfort

Thanks to its loose fit, there’s enough room to move freely. I’ve tested it on mountain bike outings, while running and when I’m bike-tafing: nothing pulls or gets in the way, even around the shoulders, so you don’t feel restricted in your movements.

It’s pleasantly light, so you hardly feel it when you’re wearing it. In short, comfort and freedom of movement. Essential criteria for sport-oriented wear.

On the other hand, it’s a bit bulky and not very compact. So it takes up a lot of space when packed in a trail bag, for example.

Conclusion

The Everyday Windstopper jacket ticks all the boxes of the multi-purpose jacket: it protects against the wind, resists light rain, is breathable and easily adapts to a variety of uses: from mountain biking to velotafing, from trail riding to hiking. It’s technical enough to keep up with our efforts, but its casual look means it can also be worn in town without looking like trail gear!
