Our complete test of the Gorewear Concurve Windbreaker for Women

First impressions

As soon as I unpacked, I was seduced by the Concurve Windbreaker jacket because of its material: extremely light and supple, it’s the type of windbreaker I love and use a lot all year round.

As for color, I’ve got it in white, which is quite transparent due to the thinness of the material (as you’ll see in the photos!), but I find it sober and rather pretty. It’s also available in other colors.

Design

The Gorewear Concurve Windbreaker features a full two-way zipper for easy on and off.

The cut is straight, not marked at the waist. I prefer slim-fitting cuts in general, but this doesn’t bother me too much on this type of windbreaker, under which I like to layer depending on the season. Maybe I should just have opted for a size S instead of an M.

At the bottom of the jacket, there’s a band with a drawstring at the hem, to hold it in place if necessary and block any wind from entering. I didn’t use it myself, but I’m sure others will.

The jacket has a wide collar lined with a softer fabric, which is pleasant for this potentially sensitive area. It’s easy to close, even with a buff underneath, so you’re well protected and the wind doesn’t blow in at the neck, which we find particularly unpleasant.

The cuffs are elasticated, again to keep the wind out.

The jacket has two zipped pockets, which are roomy enough to hold things like keys, phone, gloves and energy gels….since they’re big, whatever you put in them is going to wander around a bit, so in my opinion it’s not ideal for heavy things like keys or a phone, but it’s still an option. For my part, I appreciate having these pockets available to stow gloves or a buff during an outing, if I end up getting a little too hot.

The jacket features reflective elements on the cuffs, shoulders and pockets. Always a good thing when running at night!

Comfort

My first positive impression was confirmed by use: the jacket is comfortable and superbly pleasant to wear – you hardly feel it at all, it’s so light! It also offers great freedom of movement, which is of course essential for running.

Inside, the 3D-structured fabric has been designed not to stick to the skin despite perspiration, so the jacket can be worn with a short-sleeved top underneath without the unpleasant effect sometimes experienced with windbreakers worn with a t-shirt.

Wind protection and breathability

That’s one of the most important aspects of a windproof jacket, isn’t it? The good news is that the Concurve Windbreaker fulfills this role perfectly. I often have a lot of wind at home, so I’ve had the opportunity to put it to the test in windy conditions: it’s very effective at protecting me from the wind, and I didn’t feel cold at all, even though I always wear very little underneath.

What’s more, and this is a very important point for me because I perspire quite a lot, the breathability is really good. I tested the jacket on both trails and fairly intense split sessions and didn’t end up soaking wet, as is sometimes the case with windbreakers. Moisture is wicked away, and it’s pleasant.

And the rain?

The Concurve Windbreaker is not a waterproof jacket. In fact, it has no hood. However, the fabric is still water-repellent, so you’re protected in light rain but not in heavy downpours, which is great. That’s also why it’s so light and breathable!

If you’re looking for protection against the elements, opt for Gorewear ‘s Concurve Gore-Tex jacket, for example.

Compact

Because the jacket is so slim, it can be easily folded and stored in a pocket, trail bag or backpack. Always handy when you want to carry extra protection “just in case”, but don’t want to take up too much space. In fact, it can be stowed directly in one of the front pockets, which doubles as a storage pocket.

Durability

I don’t have enough experience yet to give you a feedback, but the fabric seems to be well made: it’s light but doesn’t look too fragile. I tend to trust Gorewear on this, as I’ve had certain products for years and they haven’t moved at all.

Conclusion

An excellent quality windbreaker for running outings in windy situations, or simply as a light layer to keep you a little warmer without putting on an extra thick layer!
