How do I use the Reines short cycling shorts?
The Reines short cycling shorts are ideal for women cyclists who want elegant-looking shorts to wear on or off their period, and for longer rides thanks to their thick, comfortable pad. Of course, the short model is best used in fine weather, otherwise opt for the long version, or wear leggings underneath!

As the shorts don’t have side pockets, I’d say they’re more suited to sporty rather than touring outings , but of course it all depends on how you organize yourself!

The Reines brand
Reines is a brand of cycling clothing for women. Its founder, Natacha Ventre, was frustrated by having to choose between technical and aesthetic cycling apparel: with a passion for fashion, she decided to launch her own brand: Reines was born! The materials for Reines cycling outfits come from Europe, and the garments are made in France.
Our complete test of the Reines women’s cycling shorts
As always, here are the results of my test, which remain subjective: we can all have different feelings, depending on our morphology and habits.
Design
When I take the Reine bib shorts out of the box, I’m immediately seduced: the fabric is really fine, beautiful and soft, the khaki color of mine(the Safari) superb and I appreciate the elegant sobriety of the “Reines” brand print in gold letters on the left thigh. It makes you want to put it on right away!

Material
The fabric of the cycling shorts is made predominantly of polyamide, with elastane as a complement. The result is a fabric that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also very comfortable to wear . It’s very thin, soft on the skin, stretchy and doesn’t rub at the seams or feel uncomfortable at any point. I just love it!
With or without straps?
The majority of Reines shorts are strapless, like the one I tested, but there is also a model with straps.
Cut
Like all Reines cycling garments, the shorts are tailored to the female body type. Overall, I find them well cut for my body type: I don’t feel any bulges forming on my thighs (not all of them are thin!), yet the shorts stay in place thanks to the discreet anti-slip patches on the thighs.
The belt is nice andwide around the stomach, and an elastic band at the back provides just the right amount of support . The only drawback is that I find the belt a little too wide for my morphology, which creates a fold when I’m on the bike. In the end, it doesn’t bother me that much, as the crease isn’t really that thick, but it would be better without it.
Size-wise, I found it to be a normal size: I followed the size guide and took an M, my usual size, which is perfect.

Menstrual pad
The pad, also known as the insert or chamois, is a pad equipped with Bloody Queen technology, developed by Wilma (see Wilma cycling shorts). It’s really comfortable and thick, which makes it suitable for long bike rides : indeed, a good day of carefree cycling on my side, and even several in a row. In hot weather, the thicker fabric means you’ll feel the heat a little more, but nothing to worry about.
What’s more, it’s of course also suitable for women (and that’s really important, as LĂ©a explained in this article on choosing cycling shorts for women). The insert is made up of superimposed layers of different materials, with foam adapted to the female support points on the bike saddle and designed toabsorb menstrual flow.
Being able to wear your shorts comfortably during your period is great news! In terms of absorption, it’s about theequivalent of 2 tampons. I’m sorry I didn’t test as much, as I don’t have a heavy enough period for that, but I can confirm that the shorts are pleasant to wear even during menstruation đŸ˜‰

Washing and drying
The shorts can be washed at 30° and dry really quickly, so you can wash them in the evening and find them dry the next day!
Conclusion
I really like these Reines women’s cycling shorts, for their quality, aesthetics, comfort and French manufacturing… And the fact that they’re menstrual! I really recommend them.
